Hands up how many of you have ever taken a “Selfie”? The Oxford English Dictionary named “Selfie” as Word of the Year for 2013, and it also took home the title as Word of the Year in the Netherlands and Belgium. I’ve written before about the phenomenon of people posing to have […]

If you love museums and you love social media, then you will have loved this year’s Ask-a-Curator – the biggest Q&A session with museums worldwide, via Twitter (if you’re hearing about it for the first time, I wrote a bit more about what Ask-a-Curator actually is in my last post). After busily tweeting for my museum at work for ten hours, you’d think I’d be sick of it all come evening, but I couldn’t wait to get started asking my own questions: Follower Alert! I […]

In November last year, we launched our first MuseUp (museums + tweetup) with Museum140 here in Berlin, in the hope it would be the first of many, and this past Friday we held our second, at the Deutsches Historisches Museum (DHM). The museum, alongside visitatio.de, had actually done most of the pre-planning and organisation this time round and had come up with a very special idea, which ended up with over 20 tweeters, bloggers and even someone from a local radio station tweeting their little […]

If you enjoy following museums on social media, then you should mark your diaries for tomorrow, Friday, 1st February, as it’s Follow-a-Museum day on Twitter! First initiated in 2010 by Sumo Design in the UK, museums in Germany have since claimed the idea for the community and have continued to celebrate Follow-a-Museum day on the 1st of February each year, spear headed by Roland Wagner and his museum and sightseeing web portal visitatio.de. Since Museum140 agrees it’s actually a good idea to do each year, […]
