{Scotland} Save Edinburgh’s Museum of Fire!

February 3, 2016

A while back, I wrote a rather enthusiastic review about Edinburgh’s Museum of Fire, housed in the historical fire station at Lauriston Place. One of those little discoveries for whom the phrase ‘hidden gem’ seems to have been coined especially. At the time, the future of the museum was uncertain, so I was delighted to see it was still open and going strong, when we visited Edinburgh last Autumn. We had the luck to be in town during doors open weekend, which meant they had pulled […]

It’s no big secret that Scotland has my heart. And it’s even less of a secret that the National Museum of Scotland holds the top position in my list of favourite museums. In fact, the amount I talk about it, you’d think there were no other museums in Scotland. But I have some great Scottish additions to add to the Museum Diary map! In fact, if you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you may have noticed that we were in Scotland the past two […]

I’m really thrilled to be a contributor to the latest edition of one of my favourite magazines, The Simple Things! As most of you know, writing about Edinburgh from the heart comes easy to me, so getting the chance to share my love for the most beautiful city in the world (a totally objective opinion, of course) in the magazine’s regular series ‘My City’ was a wonderful opportunity. For those of you who are new to The Simple Things, it’s a magazine that “celebrates the […]

Oh my, it’s August already! There was no question which city to choose next for a Museum City Guide – August is all about Edinburgh, with its multitude of festivals. And I’ve got something a little extra special to go with it. You may remember, I recently took an online video portrait workshop. Well, I enjoyed it so much, I signed up for another workshop – this time on map making, taught by the lovely Anne Ditmeyer. The result of this course, is a little […]

Jenni’s Museum Awards 2012

This time last year, I did an extensive review of my ‘52 Museums in 52 Weeks‘ challenge. And I held my very own ‘Museum Awards’ for 2011 by choosing my top 3 museums in each of several categories (here and here). I thought it would be fun to do the same again, though I’ve cut it back a little year to choosing just one candidate for each category – which was not easy to do, believe me! Actually, it was difficult not choosing the National […]

{Scotland} Edinburgh’s Museum of Fire

The phrase ‘hidden gem’ seems like it was made for Edinburgh’s Museum of Fire, situated in the old fire station on Lauriston Place. I discovered it a week before we were due to leave for Berlin, but with the removal van already on its way a visit was just not possible. So when I went back over for my little trip to Edinburgh in February without the boy, I’d lined up not only a night out at the biggest event in town at the National […]
