All good things come in threes, as they say, so after my two previous posts about Berlin’s Lange Nacht der Museen, I have one final post to share with you: the big night itself! As I previously mentioned, #MuseumBoy was VERY excited to be coming along for the first time. Or, as he puts it, to be ‘helping mummy with her work’. After studying the programme together, he even ‘wrote’ a list of all the things he wanted to see and do. It was several pages […]

Only one more sleep until Berlin’s Lange Nacht der Museen. If you’ve been following the blog this week, you’ll know that #MuseumBoy is accompanying me for the first time this year. To say he is excited would be an understatement. He wanted to stay home from Kindergarten today, so he could pack his bag for tomorrow night. THAT’s how excited he is! It made me think, though, about what we should take along for the ride tomorrow – I wouldn’t overthink it that much were […]

Just a few more sleeps until it’s that time of year again – Berlin’s ‘Lange Nacht der Museen‘ takes place this coming Saturday. You may or may not know, that Berlin was where the whole ‘long night of museums’ idea started – museums all across town will be opening their doors all through the night, many of them putting on special events just for the occassion. It’s been going since 1997, with one to two happening per year, and I’ve attended quite a few since […]

As I mentioned on Friday, it was time for another Long Night of Museums here in Berlin at the weekend. But beforehand I was off to a MuseUp at the newly re-opened Schwules Museum (Gay Museum) to kick off the afternoon. Focus of the event was the exhibition ‘Ades Wunderland’, honouring Berlin comedy artist Ades Zabel who was there to guide us round himself. As part of the exhibition, you could dress up in the style of one of Ades’ characters – of course, I […]

Tomorrow it’s time again for Berlin’s Lange Nacht der Museen – Long Night of Museum summer edition. Since there’s also one that takes place in winter, this will be my fifth since we’ve been here (the first being just a few days after our move). If you’re thinking about attending a Long Night of Museum yourself, whether in Berlin or one of the many other cities around the world that now put on similar events at different times of the year, you may find my […]

31. Lange Nacht der Museen Highlights

August 27, 2012

As I mentioned last week, this past Saturday was the 31. Lange Nacht der Museen in Berlin. Over 100 museums took part, and were open from 6pm in the evening until 2am in the morning. I was taking part in a double capacity. Officially, I wasn’t working and there on my own time, but as the National Museums in Berlin, whom I work for, joined Twitter on Friday (you can find them at @smbmuseum) I was sending some ‘live’ tweets throughout the night. Therefore I […]
