100 Museums Challenge: Museum No.84 During our recent little holiday in Scotland, we visited the Dundee Science Centre, a hands-on experience aimed at families. There was a special CSI exhibit that had just opened for the Scottish summer holidays, and runs until the end of August, so we jumped right in with the dig pit. Forget about dino digs, we were digging up (replica) human bones! After the kids had dug them up, cleaned with with brushes, and collected them in a bucket, they could […]

100 Museums Challenge: Museum No.83 I’ve just come back from a one week trip to Scotland with the boys. We were visiting a friend in Dundee, and then spent a couple of nights in Edinburgh before flying home. On previous trips to Dundee, I had been to Broughty Ferry before – a suburb of Dundee right next to the beach on the river Tay – but I’d never made it to Broughty Castle Museum. Third time lucky! 100 Museums Challenge: Museum No.4 What better way to start a weekend, then with a museum visit! We started my last day in Dundee with a visit to Dundee Contemporary Arts. Currently showing is an exhibition by Finnish artist duo IC-98, whose large-scale projections of extraordinary, richly […]

100 Museums Challenge: Museum No.3 I’m currently enjoying a long weekend in Scotland, leaving my three men to fend for themselves in Berlin. The trip includes a couple of days visiting a friend in Dundee, where we had lunch at The McManus. Their cafe always offer a range of gluten free options, and I couldn’t turn down the chance to try their Bailey’s cheesecake after my soup & sandwich. Heaven on a plate! We followed lunch with some art. The McManus’ current special exhibition ‘Draw […]

Happy Burns Night everyone! Since today is the day we celebrate Scotland’s national bard, I thought it would be appropriate to share another Scottish museum with you. When we visited our friend in Dundee during our family holiday last Autumn, we took the kids to the McManus, Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum. It was also my first time there, or indeed at any museum in Dundee. After a morning of travelling, we started out with lunch in the excellent café – generous size portions and […]
