Fair Weather Museum Roundup

August 28, 2013

We’ve almost reached the end of August, but with a little bit of luck it’s not the end of summer. Or maybe we’ll have a golden Autumn. Whatever the season, when the weather is fair, there are plenty of outdoors museum destinations to head to. Here’s a round up of some of my favourites that have featured on Museum Diary. Open Air Museums Domäne Dahlem, Berlin, Germany Historic Village of Hokkaido, Sapporo, Japan Museumsdorf Düppel, Berlin, Germany St Fagan’s National History Museum, near Cardiff, Wales […]

July 15, 2013

Thank you for all your positive feedback on the first post in my Museum City Guides series. After starting off in Berlin, we continue to sunny Barcelona this week. I was fortunate enough to visit Barcelona last year for a week and managed to cram in about a dozen museum visits. So once again it was a challenge to choose my top 5. And yes, Barcelona does have many art museums, but please keep in mind that these are all personal recommendations and my personal […]

Jenni’s Museum Awards 2012

January 9, 2013

This time last year, I did an extensive review of my ‘52 Museums in 52 Weeks‘ challenge. I hope you all have a great 2013 full of health, happiness and, of course, museums ;-) Before jumping head first in to the new year ahead I wanted to briefly reflect back on the year that was. This time last year, I was making the big resolution to find […]

{Spain} Museu de la Xocolata

September 26, 2012

I suddenly realised I still owed you a couple of posts from my trip to Barcelona earlier in the summer. For anyone with a sweet tooth, Barcelona’s Chocolate Museum sounds like the perfect destination (though as I said to a friend who doesn’t like chocolate, you’re meant to look at the exhibits, not eat them^^) And to keep the exhibits from melting it was also refreshingly cool and a welcome escape from the mid-day heat outside. The museum introduces the history of cacao and chocolate, from […]

{Spain} Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport

July 27, 2012

The Summer Olympic Games kick off in London today, so what better museum to introduce to you than the Museu Olímpic i de l’Esport in Barcelona (or the Olympic and Sport Museum in English), which bills itself as “a window on the universe of sport”. Of all the museums I visited during my visit to Barcelona, this was my favourite, and that despite not having a particular interest in sport. For me, it had the right balance of objects, images, textual information, and interactives.   […]
