Hallowe’en is just around the corner, and I have to admit, I am a big fan! Previously, I shared a piece here on the blog about the Scottish/Irish cultural background of Hallowe’en (if you think it’s all about devil worship, I recommend you read it and be convinced of the contrary), but this year I decided to do something a little fun instead. I had a look around the world to see which spookily themed museums would be a perfect fit for museums lovers to visit […]

Fair Weather Museum Roundup
August 28, 2013

We’ve almost reached the end of August, but with a little bit of luck it’s not the end of summer. Or maybe we’ll have a golden Autumn. Whatever the season, when the weather is fair, there are plenty of outdoors museum destinations to head to. Here’s a round up of some of my favourites that have featured on Museum Diary. Open Air Museums Domäne Dahlem, Berlin, Germany Historic Village of Hokkaido, Sapporo, Japan Museumsdorf Düppel, Berlin, Germany St Fagan’s National History Museum, near Cardiff, Wales […]
Museum City Guide: My Top 5 in Reykjavík
July 29, 2013

Reykjavík holds a special place in our hearts – it’s where we spent the majority of our honeymoon. And yes, part of that was spent at a museum conference, but just for the record – my husband didn’t mind and thought it was fun to get to see me speak. In fact, he really enjoys visiting museums himself too, so we clocked up quite a few during our trip. Sometimes people are surprised at how many museums there are in Reykjavík, considering Iceland is overall […]
Update: Icelandic Phallological Museum
April 17, 2011
Those of you who have been following this blog since the early days may remember that one of my very first posts was about the Icelandic Phallological Museum, which we visited during our honeymoon no less. I later added some more pictures of the museum in another post (Icelandic Phallological Museum Photo Gallery). Well, the latest news is that the museum now finally has a human specimen! Several people, including a Brit, a German and an American, have pledged a contribution to the museum over the […]

Comments Off on Icelandic Phallological Museum – Photo Gallery

I’ve edited another batch of photos from our Iceland trip, and here are a couple more from the Icelandic Phallological Museum showing the building’s exterior, and the set-up of the main exhibition space inside. You’ve got the admire the museum’s dedication to the cause, from its phallic shaped sign and sculpture at the entrance, to the phallus phone and the curator’s similarly shaped bow tie which is made from the very soft leather of, you might have guessed it, a whale’s phallus. The previous post about […]
Icelandic Art Attack
October 18, 2009

We’re back home from our honeymoon now, but I wanted to write a little bit more about some of the art museums we visited in Iceland. With three buildings spread across the city, Listasafn Reykjavíkur – the Reykjavík Art Museum – has quite a prominent presence. And, even better, it offers free admission! During our stay, we managed to visit two of the sites: Hafnarhús, which houses the museum’s contemporary art, is easily the most impressive size wise, being situated down by the harbour in […]
