My Tips for Lange Nacht der Museen 2016

August 26, 2016

News

It’s that time of year again, and this time it’s kind of crept up on me – tomorrow is Berlin’s annual Lange Nacht der Museen, or Long Night of Museums, in its 36th edition. 77 museums are taking part, with around 700 events to chose from. All that for just one ticket, which also included the use of public transport.

Our Highlights for Families

Last year, I took #MuseumBoy with me for the first time, and we had a grand time together. Officially, the evening starts at 6pm but some museums started their family programmes early so we headed out around 3pm. My little museum trooper kept going until about 10pm, so we got a good amount of time out of it. This year we’ll be doing the same. I read out the family events from the programme to him, and he chose his top three things to go to. They’re the same three things as last year, but I don’t mind. I’ve been to so many of these nights in the past five years (they used to be twice annually) that I’m totally fine with him calling the shots and just enjoying our time together. Here’s what he’s chosen:

>> We are planning to start our museum night at the MACHmit! Museum for Children

>> Then we want to go to build water rockets at the Archenhold Observatory. #MuseumBoy has been asking about this all year, ever since we went last year!

>> His final choice is the Communication Museum, which has a cool sounding super hero programme this year.

And, if we are not too tired, I would really like to stop over at THE GATE Berlin on our way home, the new multi-media time travel exhibition through 300 years of Berlin history.

Survival Tips

whats in our bag

>> Last year I shared what #MuseumBoy and I took with us on the night. Apart from the book, we used everything we took so our bags will look similar this year.
