Something for the Weekend #4

February 19, 2016

How has everyone’s week been? I’ve spent a large portion of my week sitting on the bed, holding #MuseumBaby’s feverish little hand. He seems to have been ill on and off since December. Can’t wait for warmer weather! Anyhow, I’ve had a lot of time to browse the internet, while not being able to do much else, and gathered together some interesting links for another round of ‘Something for the Weekend’!

The opening date for the National Museum of Scotland’s 10 new galleries has finally been announced as 8th July 2016. So excited! Now I just need to schedule another visit to Edinburgh for after then…

If you enjoyed the new ‘Kids in Museums Book Club’ feature and can’t wait until next month for the next book, check out HeyWow! Books and their new Kickstarter. Aimed at kids aged 1-8, it’s a bit like the ‘Where’s Wally’ adventures, but instead kids get to search for themselves among twelve vibrantly illustrated city scenes, including a museum and an art gallery (see images above, courtesy of HeyWow!, for a sneak peek)!

I totally wished I lived closer to Chicago, so I could book a night in Van Gogh’s famous bedroom, which the Art Institute of Chicago has recreated as an Air BnB rental.

ISIS has destroyed a slew of historic artworks and ancient artifacts in Iraq, but a group of artists and cultural organisations have now recreated some in digital form so that they can be downloaded and printed in 3D!

This is why I work in museums – butt! Haha, not really, it’s because of all the other things. This little girl featured on Humans of New York is seriously cute. I love her enthusiasm.

And finally, a science museum in Tokyo has created a 5 metre high toilet exhibit, which you can slide down in to wearing poop hats. Sounds like fun!

That’s it for this week. Remember, you can also get regular updates and interesting links from me onTwitter and Facebook. I hope you all have a lovely weekend!
