{Giveway} Blipfoto Lifetime Membership

News

Today’s post is a bit off topic regarding museums, but I would like to share with you a website I have been using on and off over the past 5 years. Blipfoto, founded in 2004 in Edinburgh (!), is a photography website and social network. If, like me, you are a big fan of e.g. Instagram, you may think ‘why do I need another photography network?’, but Blipfoto has a unique angle: marketing itself as an online photo journal, users can  upload just ONE single photograph each day AND it has to have been taken on that day (the upload tool reads the date from your photo’s EXIF data, so no cheating!). If you fall behind, you can ‘backblip’ and fill in days you have missed out, but the photos still need to have been taken on the relevant days.

Like on other social networks, you can tag your photos, browse other users’ entries and leave comments. You also gain awards for certain achievements, such as posting 100 entries in a row, or completing a full year of 365 entries. I’ve gone through phases where I’ve posted loads in a row, and then long stretches where I kind of lost my photo mojo but still enjoyed browsing and commenting on other people’s entries. I even signed up as a lifetime member! What I really like about this site, is that it encourages me to at least try to take photographs every day (there’s a smartphone app to go with it, which you can set up to send you a daily reminder), and that, if you have taken more than one photo, you really need to think about which one is going to go in your journal for that day.

At the turn of the year, Blipfoto marked its 10th anniversary with an exciting announcement: they partnered up with Polaroid, and are now officially called Polaroid | Blipfoto! To celebrate, all lifetime members, as a thank you for their support, have been given a special lifetime membership to gift to a friend. As with other sites, signing up for it is free but as a paid member you get some other exclusive benefits, such as members only competitions. So, being a lifetime member myself, that means I now have one membership to gift to a friend! I’ve decided to find the right person for it via my blog readers, as we are all friends here, aren’t we? I would really like it to go to someone who would get the most out of it, i.e. someone who takes photographs on a regular basis and likes keeping a journal.

If you like the idea of Blipfoto and would like to be in with a chance of receiving a lifetime membership and becoming a Blipper, all you need to do is leave a comment below by Friday 23 January, telling me what you would use your Blipfoto journal to photograph and document. Out of everyone who leaves a comment, #MuseumBoy will then pick the winning name out of a hat. I will send the winner an email to notify them, with a unique code and instructions on how to redeem it. The code needs to be redeemed by 30th January, so please only enter if you will be able to access your emails and the Blipfoto website between 23-30 January.

By the way, you can find me on Blipfoto under the profile name PHOTOJENNIC!

Please note that this post is not sponsored by or in any way affiliated with Polaroid | Blipfoto. I am just a loyal user who really loves this site (and not just because it was founded in Edinburgh!), and I would hate to see the gift go to waste.

Edit: Some people have been asking if their answer has to be museum related. Although I very much applaud anyone who wants to journal their museum visits, this is not a prerequisite to take part in the giveaway ;)

I think this is a great idea! with digital photos it’s easy to take a lot of photos. But having to chose just one photo that signifies your day really will make me think about what was important for me that day. I would photography my daily life even if it was just a run-of-the-mill work day.

I currently have a standard blipfoto membership and love it. The fact you can take a photo a day and share it is great. I would take a photo of something that makes me smile that day. Its good to look back and see what you’ve documented too!

Ooh, thanks for the info, I was wondering what blipphoto was about

I would try and capture a photo of the kids every day to make it a little different and more private than my Instagram. They grow too quickly! Naturally that would include a lot of museums!

I’d be interested too! Like Vyki+Sparks, I wanted to start a daily photo dairy of the children. Just one pic a day of both of them to see how they change during the year. I tried to use “day one” but that’s not really what I need for i. Blipfoto would be so it. :-)

Sounds like a great way to document everyday life, which is worth documenting by the way. I’d try to avoid food photos, but it would be great at work and for life with my friends.

Thanks for sharing a product you believe in and like, I think that’s a great recommendation for Blipfoto!

    Hi Jenni
How kind to do a giveaway on your blog!
I would unashamedly do pics mainly of things I’ve cooked, or am cooking… or of life in rural Scotland, with the cat, dogs, chickens (and this Spring, bees too!)
Like you, I have spurts of doing my blog or of uploading pics… and then long periods when I’m not online so much. But I have set myself some proper goals this year in relation to my blog, so we’ll see how it goes!
All the best to you and your boys!
