Looking Back: Museum Visits in 2014

January 7, 2015

Two years ago I set myself the challenge of visiting ’52 Museums in 52 Weeks’. Since then, I’ve not set myself any specific targets, but the habit of keeping a list of museums I’d visited stuck. In 2013 I managed to beat my own record by visiting over 100 museums in 5 different countries! Last year there was quite a bit of museum activity in the first couple of months, but as the year progressed I got decidedly slowed down by my pregnancy (which also probably accounts for the huge jump in visits to the Jewish Museum, as it’s just next door so doesn’t take as much effort to get to when you’ve only limited mobility). I still managed a total count of 82 visits to 51 different museums,  which works out at 1.6 visits per week. And 26 of those were museums I’d visited for the first time. Can you tell I like statistics? Here are a few pretty graphs to help sum it all up:

Top 3 Most Visited Museums

  1. Jüdisches Museum Berlin (18 visits) – for the fourth year in a row, our neighbours next door takes one of the top two spots, this time taking its turn at number 1.
  2. National Museum of Scotland (6 visits) – despite having left Edinburgh over three years ago, this museum still manages to make it near the top of my ‘most visited’ list.
  3. Museum für Naturkunde Berlin (4 visits) – after #MuseumBoy’s interest in dinosaurs increased in the past year, the Natural History Museum just manages to scrape ahead of the Museum of Technology and its cars
