In the latest edition of my Collector’s Spotlight feature, I have something a little bit different for you. Because this time, it’s my own collection of museum souvenirs that’s ended up in the spotlight! As an avid reader of the magazine The Simple Things, I was thrilled to be featured in their collectors series.
It was really quite exciting to take part. First, I was interviewed via telephone by one of the magazine’s writers from the UK. Then, we arranged for a local photographer in Berlin to come and shoot my portrait. I was asked if I had any recommendations, and immediately put forward fellow British expat Zoë. It was such fun doing the photo shoot together. Didn’t she do an amazing job? (see below) I think she managed to make me look really glamorous – because museums are , of course, really glamorous too ;)
For those of you who are new to The Simple Things, it’s a magazine that “celebrates the things that matter most. It’s about slowing down, enjoying what’s on your doorstep, making mindful choices, being curious, and gathering friends, family and the fruits of the land (…). And we like to think that the small, simple things we do will make a difference in the long run.”
Issue 23 of The Simple Things went on sale in the UK this week, so if you fancy picking up a copy you should have until the end of May, when the next edition comes out, to do so. You can also order back issue online or download the iPad version of the magazine (you can choose between long term subscription or just buying a one off issue).
And just in case you didn’t know, I also started an online ‘Museum of Museum Souvenirs’, which is mentioned in the interview. The majority of ‘exhibits’ so far are from my own collection, but anyone can contribute. You can check it out here: Museum of Museum Souvenirs
