{Germany} Museum Spotting by Boat

September 4, 2013

A really popular activity in Berlin when the weather is nice, is to go on a boat ride along one of the rivers or canals. Oh, the hours we have spent watching boats on the way to and from nursery, and waving to the people on board as they slip under the bridge below us.  So a few weeks ago we finally made #MuseumBaby’s wish come to, and all went on a boat ride ourselves.

There many different options and companies to chose from. We decided on the 1 hour round trip from Berlin Hauptbahnhof with the Reederei Riedel, which maxed out the attention span of a 2 year old, but you can also choose longer trips that take you on a much larger circuit. Obviously, the highlight for me was that we got to go around Museum Island! Here we are approaching the Bode-Museum!

And gliding past the Alte Nationalgalerie!

Berlin Cathedral isn’t exactly a museum, but it’s located on Museum Island so I thought I’d include it here :)

The boat ride also took us past Nikolaiviertel, Berlin’s historic quarter and home to several museums including the Ephraim-Palais, Museum Knoblauchhaus and the Nikolaikirche, which are all part of the Stiftung Stadtmuseum Berlin.

The final museum we spotted during out boat ride was the DDR Museum, one of our favourites.

So, next time you find yourself in Berlin on a nice day, why not treat yourself to a round of museum spotting by boat!
