Don’t forget to look up!

June 12, 2013

Asides, England, Germany, Scotland

Writing about the painted ceilings at Schloss Köpenick got me thinking about other museums I’ve been to where it’s worth while to remember looking up. Sometimes it’s because there’s an exciting exhibit you may otherwise miss, such as this painted ceiling from Rossend Castle at the National Museum of Scotland, Brachiosaurus head at the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin, or a whole swarm of floating heads at the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery in Glasgow.

But quite often it’s the museum buildings themselves that will make you go “wow” when you look up, many of them housed in architectural gems old and new. Below you can see the glass featured roofs of the National Museum of Scotland, the British Museum, and four museums in Berlin, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin’s Gemäldegalerie, the Deutsches Historisches Museum, the Museum für Kommunikation and the Glass Courtyard of the Jüdisches Museum Berlin. So, the next time you visit a museum, remember to look up!

I’m new to your blog and just wanted to say I love this post! Remembering to look up is such a great rule, for exploring museums but also anywhere, out in nature, and for my husband and i, as picture-taking fiends, just to get another perspective.
These shots are great- I was in Berlin seven years ago and remember photographing a similar part of the Jewish Museum :)
