I thought we can’t be having a film week special here on Museum Diary without a little giveaway, and I have just the right thing for my faithful readers that I’ve been holding on to from the Deutsches Filmmuseum gift shop – a DIY Zoetrope! It consists of a cylinder with vertical slits around the side. Inside the cylinder is a sequence of images, which come to life when viewed through the slits as the cylinder spins round.
For a chance to win this DIY Zoetrope, all you have to do is leave a comment below telling me which is your favourite movie? Perhaps it even features a museum ;-) Entry will remain open until 8pm UK time next Friday (1 March), after which I will select a lucky winter via the random number generator site. And don’t worry, I will provide an English translation of the instructions if the winner doesn’t understand German. Good luck!
Edit: Congratulations to Melanie (comment #3) – the random number generator has selected you as the winner of the Zoetrope Craft Kit!

DIY Zoetrope!! How exciting :)
Favourite film though, that’s a tough one, there are so many amazing films to choose from.
I’ll go with Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark
“That belongs in a museum!”

Hi Jenny,
A Zeotrope is really a nice device. We have a wooden model and used it for a poster anouncing our exhibition on the European Heritage Day in September: http://www.ring-cafe-finsterwalde.de/media/files/Ausstellungsplakat-Schlinger-2012.pdf
One of my favorite movie is “The intouchables”!
