Seeing as tomorrow is the day we celebrate all things love, I thought I’d do a little museum Valentine’s round up. Perhaps it will give you some last minute ideas ;-)
Apparently, “as far as first date ideas go, going to a museum is considered one of the best”. You can read more about it in How To Go On A Museum Date.
As far a museum dates go, the Meguro Parasitological Museum in Tokyo is a popular hot spot, believe it or not – because “nothing says ‘I love you” like a 30 foot tape worm”.
Sweets for your sweet, sugar for your honey? Sadly, the Zucker Museum in Berlin is currently closed until late 2014, but some other ‘sweet’ museums you could take your Valentine’s date to – and perhaps more appealing that tape worms – include the Demel Museum in Vienna, the Museu de la Xocolata in Barcelona, and the Rittersport Schokowelt in Berlin.
One museum you probably want to stay clear of on Valentine’s Day is the Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb, though apparently their visitor numbers actually double on this day. And in fact, it is actually well worth a visit.

Lovely post. I’ve been to the one on Barcelona. And although I’ve been to Tokyo, I draw a line on tape worms ;) Have a great Valentine’s Day!

What an interesting concept. I must admit I’ve never done a museum date before, usually it’s with the kids running riot from room to room! How interesting that Zagreb has a museum broken relationships, I wonder what spurred that idea? See you at the Hive :) x

Thanks for visiting, Geraldine. The idea for the museum started out as an art project in 2006, created by an ex couple with items from themselves and their friends, each accompanied by a story ranging from a sentence to a couple of paragraphs. It just grew from there. There’s more info about it in the previous post: http://museumdiary.com/2011/09/15/the-museum-of-broken-relationships/ See you at The Hive :-)
