Museum Heist Advent Calendar

November 28, 2012

It’s that time of year again, this weekend sees the beginning of Advent, the start of the build up to Christmas. In case you don’t have an Advent calendar yet, there’s still a couple of days left to get yourself one and if you’re looking for a museum related option, I have a recommendation for you.

Playmobil Advent Calendar - Museum Heist

#MuseumBaby is getting a traditional Advent calendar this year, hand embroidered by my mum 30 odd years ago, but the adults of the family decided to treat ourselves to one too after we discovered that one of the new edition Playmobil Advent calendars for this year is set in a museum! Following in the footsteps of How to Steal a Million (1966), Wallace and Gromit in the Wrong Trousers (1993), and the Thomas Crown Affair (1999) with a pinch of the Mummy (1999) thrown in, the museum in Playmobil land – apparently host to an exhibition on Ancient Egypt complete with sarcophagus and resurrected mummy – is scene of a heist.

There’s an alarm with sound included, to be set off when the thief tries to make his move, and a policeman on a quad bike on hand to take chase. I won’t ruin the surprise by telling you what else the calendar contains (warning: don’t look on the back of the packaging, which gives you a complete inventory for every day!) The calendar is recommended for children aged 4 and up. We reckoned it could come in to good use again when #MuseumBaby is older. In the mean time, @thingsinjars and I are looking forward to a fun museum heist Advent^^

The Playmobil Calendar (4168, Police Alarm) is available on Amazon, though you might also be able to find it at well stocked toy or department stores (we picked ours up here in Berlin at Galeria Kaufhof for about 15 Euro). Or you can follow how the museum heist story unfolds on my Museum Diary Facebook page every day during December.
