One year Berlin: My favourite museum moments

August 20, 2012

Exactly one year ago today, #MuseumBaby and I left Edinburgh and stepped on a plane to Berlin (@thingsinjars had already gone ahead 6 weeks before us). To mark the occasion of our first full year in this wonderful city full of museums, I’ve been sharing my favourite Berlin museum moments on Twitter today. I decided to write a bonus post for the blog and sum them all up.

So, in reverse order, counting back to my No.1 top Berlin museum moment:

No.5: Visiting the Dinosaur Hall at the Museum für Naturkunde and seeing the world’s tallest dinosaur skeleton. This was also my first ever visit to any Berlin museum.

No.4: The special exhibition ‘Pergamon. Panorama of the Ancient Metropolis’ at the Pergamon Museum, with the amazing 360° Panorama by Berlin-based artist Yadegar Asisi. I had to overcome my fear of heights to go see it.

No.3: My first ever “Lange Nacht der Museen” (Long Night of Museums). I’d never been to one before, in any city, and Berlin is the one that started them all. It was chucking down with rain all night, but it was still fun and a great intro to Berlin’s museum landscape.

No.2: My birthday surprise at the Currywurst Museum. As his birthday present to me, my brother had taken me on a visit to this very unique museum, and there was a wee surprise gift from the museum waiting for me at the ticket desk. Incidentally, we used the little box of curry powder to serve currywurst at our summer party the other week :-)

No.1: My top Berlin museum moment, of course, had to be getting my new job at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (National Museums in Berlin)! Since May I’ve been working there as their Web 2.0 Officer.
