The Concorde Experience App

National Museums Scotland recently launched ‘The Concorde Experience’ app, their first app in fact, available for iPhone, iPad and Android. The description from the iTune store reads as follows:

“Discover the Concorde experience in National Museums Scotland’s feature-rich app that tells the story of this iconic airplane. Hear what it was like to fly Concorde from former pilot Captain Jock Reid as he gives you an audio tour of the aircraft inside and out, and find out what it was like to be a passenger aboard one of these magnificent airplanes first hand. Accompanied by over fifty photographs and sixteen audio tracks, and packed with useful facts and technical data, The Concorde Experience is a must for any enthusiast or plane lover. Plus there’s information on where you can still visit and explore a real Concorde up close at the National Museum of Flight, near Edinburgh.”

The reason I’m really excited about this, is not because I had anything to do with making the app (I didn’t), but because almost two dozen of the “over fifty photographs” were taken by me! For once I got the chance to be a real photographer, including the whole lying on your back under a plane in the middle of an aircraft hangar and balancing on one leg over the sides of railings to get just the right shot.

I couldn’t possibly give a review of the app without being biased, but if you go and give it a test drive – which you should, as apart from anything else the iPhone and Android versions are free so you have nothing to loose – be sure to check out the photographs in the “Concorde audio tour” section, particularly “In flight” and “The exterior”. You can also see more images from the photo shoot in my Flickr portfolio.
