100 Museums Challenge: Museum No.21 Continuing with our series of museums in Gothenburg, I wanted to tell you about Universeum. Which is actually a science centre, rather than a museum, but let’s not be too picky about definitions. In fact, it’s the largest science centre in the Nordic region, covering seven levels, from marine life to rainforest to outer space and everything in between. You start your visit by taking a diagonal lift up to ‘Water’s Way’ on Level 7, where you will meet some […]

A Postcard from…Speyer

Dear Jenni, as you may remember, I am a true petrol head. Obviously, the “Technik Museum Sinsheim” in Speyer was THE place for me to visit. Cars’n’bikes, trains’n’planes & everything that makes my heart beats faster. Pure heaven! But guess what! Next to the museum, there is the “Wilhelmsbau“! THAT’s a place you should go to! Fashion from the 19th and early 20th century, toys, dolls and countless other things. Have you listened to self-playing musical instruments? It’s hilarious! See ya in Dublin Christian Christian […]

As I mentioned last week, this past Saturday was the 31. Lange Nacht der Museen in Berlin. Over 100 museums took part, and were open from 6pm in the evening until 2am in the morning. Therefore I […]

I discovered Berlin’s Energy Museum by chance, while reading through the list of participants for the next Lange Nacht der Museen (Long Night of Museums) at the end of August. The museum has no regular opening hours and visits are by guided tour and appointment only but you know me, I just had to arrange one ;-) As the name implies, the Energy Museum is devoted to energy production and the technology surrounding it, specifically electrical engineering. It’s located in a disused energy storage plant, […]

My Top Berlin Museum Recommendations

May 11, 2012

We’ve only been in Berlin a couple of months (well, coming up for 9 months actually, how time flies!), but already I’ve had at least half a dozen requests from international friends and colleagues for must see museum recommendations. So I don’t need to compile them anew every time someone asks, I thought I’d write a blog post about them and then I can just point people to that! (why didn’t I think of this before?) Please note that I’m only recommending museums I have […]

Telephones are better than robots

Although #MuseumBaby has been dragged through visited countless museums here in Berlin, most of those he was strapped into a pram as sadly there isn’t a wonderful space like Imagine at any of the museums here, where babies could crawl around. But now that he has discovered his new walking skills, I thought I’d take him to meet the robots at the ‘Museum für Kommunikation’ – they rove around the plaza in the main hall on the ground floor, perfect for little boys who like […]
