100 Museums Challenge: Museum No.43 There’s not much to be said about Berlin’s Museum für Naturkunde that I haven’t said already, but I wanted to share some pics from our latest visit to the much loved natural history museum. We had some friends visiting from Scotland, and seeing the museum’s famous dinosaur collection was an absolute ‘must visit’. Visiting is namesake Oskar, the Brachiosaurus, is always a pleaseure, but this visit was especially exciting as #MuseumBoy had not yet seen the new T.rex addition which […]

If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you’ll know that my favourite museum in Berlin is the Natural History Museum (Museum für Naturkunde). Because, dinosaurs. That’s the way I roll. So you can well imagine the amount of hyperventilating that incurred when this invitation fluttered in to my inbox! Yes, that’s right, the Museum für Naturkunde was getting a new T.rex skeleton. And not just any T.rex skeleton, a REAL one. Not just a cast, like in many other museums – there are […]

For a while now, I’ve been part of a group of museum professionals from across Berlin, who meet on a regular basis, sometimes for talks and presentations, sometimes just for fun or to visit each other’s museums. Pandas are very popular, be it as star attractions in zoos, in advertising, or as cute motifs on children’s clothing. But other than that there are sadly very few of these beautiful animals left in the world, and that they […]

{Germany} A Visit to the Berlin “Dinosaur Museum”

Last week, I found myself with a rare midweek day to spend with #MuseumBaby, following a late morning appointment after which it was too late to send him to nursery. I asked him what he would like to do, and without hesitation he exclaimed “The dinosaur museum!” – a.k.a. Berlin’s Natural History Museum. This was a little surprising, as usually he will ask to go to the “Car Museum” (i.e. the Technology Museum), but I wasn’t about to complain since the Natural History Museum is my […]

This week is going to be a little different on Museum Diary. It’s Social Media Week in several cities around the world, including Berlin, so over at Museum140 we’ve been planning a very special project for which we need your help. It’s been a while since we ran a photography based project, so we thought it would be fun to create a visual Museum ABC, with photos to represent each letter of the alphabet. And that’s where you can join in! Throughout Social Media Week, […]
