100 Museums Challenge: Museum No.78 When I attended the Blogtacular conference in London last weekend, I was ecstatic to discover it was literally right next door to the Museum of London. I was torn between using the conference breaks for networking – the reason I was there – and having a museum I’d not yet visited just within reach. Thankfully, we had a very generous lunch break which allowed for both, so only wild horses would have kept me from popping next door and having […]

100 Museums Challenge: Museum No.75 When I arrived in London on Thursday afternoon last week, I did a good deal of shopping (the usual long list of British food, magazine and toiletries we miss in Berlin), geeked out with the Tudors at the National Portrait Gallery, then was ready to call it a night. Two days of the Blogtacular conference, which I have written about on my other blog, lay ahead of me, and I thought it would be a good idea to get an […]

100 Museums Challenge: Museum No.74 When I was younger, I had a total history crush on Henry VIII. Not in a ‘I fancy him and want to marry him’ kind of way (I’m way too fond of my head, for that, lol), but I was just fascinated with him, his life and that of the Tudors and Stuarts. We’re more than half way through my summer ‘Museum City Guides’ series, so it’s time for the other guest post I promised you. When I first discovered Jack’s Adventures in Museum Land, I immediately felt like I had stumbled upon a kindred spirit. Jack’s blog is a personal account of all the museums around the world he loves to visit, with a particular passion for unique and obscure hidden gems, and the occasional museum related recipe. Sound familiar? Although I used to visit London and […]

Museum Craft Corner: Kylie Dress-up Doll

Kylie Minogue probably doesn’t need much introduction. And I’m not ashamed to say I’m a little bit of a fan (is it okay to admit that Kylie was the first ever album I had?). Since her first single ‘Locomotion’ in 1987, Kylie has become a superstar and fashion icon, her costumes and world tours legendary. Museums collect and exhibit fashion, so it’s unsurprising that there should have been an exhibition dedicated to her. ‘Kylie – The Exhibition’ featured costumes and memorabilia collected over Kylie’s career […]

British Jubilee Cupcake Toppers

This weekend is the main focus of the celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee, marking 60 years of her reign. She came to the throne in February 1952, although her coronation didn’t take place until June of the following year (does that mean we get to celebrate again next year?). Many museums across the UK are having exhibitions to mark the special occasion. For example, the V&A’s exhibition “Queen Elizabeth II by Cecil Beaton: A Diamond Jubilee Celebration” features portraits by royal photographer Cecil […]
