100 Museums Challenge: Museum No.93 I don’t often write about exhibitions just as they are about to close, but today we FINALLY managed to make it to the much lauded Erwin Wurm exhibition at the Berlinische Galerie, on its penultimate day before it finishes. We had such a great time, that I quickly wanted to share a post about it for anyone currently in Berlin who either hadn’t heard of it or had been undecided about going – you still have one day left! Erwin […]

100 Museums Challenge: Museums No.71 Last Friday, I was invited to take part in a Tweetup at Schönhausen Palace in Berlin Pankow, to view the current special exhibition ‘Palaces for the State Visitor: State Visits in the Divided Germany’. Starting with the state visits of Queen Elizabeth II to Brühl, near Bonn – the former capital of West Germany – in 1965, and Hungarian General Secretary János Kádár to East Berlin in 1966, the exhibition tells the story of two opposing political systems, and two […]

100 Museums Challenge: Museum No.43 There’s not much to be said about Berlin’s Museum für Naturkunde that I haven’t said already, but I wanted to share some pics from our latest visit to the much loved natural history museum. We had some friends visiting from Scotland, and seeing the museum’s famous dinosaur collection was an absolute ‘must visit’. Visiting is namesake Oskar, the Brachiosaurus, is always a pleaseure, but this visit was especially exciting as #MuseumBoy had not yet seen the new T.rex addition which […]

100 Museums Challenge: Museum No.42 A couple of weeks ago, I attended a meeting of the Museum Think Tank Berlin at C/O Berlin, and we were given the opportunity to look around the current exhibitions beforehand. For those unfamiliar with it, C/O Berlin is “a charitable foundation that has presented, since 2000, a cultural program with an international standing. The exhibition venue for photography and visual media shows works by renowned artists, promotes emerging talent and accompanies children, youths and adults on their journeys of […]

{Germany} Pandas in Berlin

Last week, I took #MuseumBaby to meet a friend of mine and her little boy at Berlin’s Natural History Museum. I hadn’t really paid much attention to the date, so was delighted to discover that their new special exhibition all about Pandas had just opened! Pandas are very popular, be it as star attractions in zoos, in advertising, or as cute motifs on children’s clothing. But other than that there are sadly very few of these beautiful animals left in the world, and that they […]

{Germany} Around the World in 80 Things

Last weekend, we went on a family visit to Berlin’s Museum für Kommunikation. Mainly, because #MuseumBoy wanted to show Granny Scotland the robots (yes, that’s right, he is no longer scared of them!), but I was also really excited to see the special exhibition “Around the World in 80 Things: the Jules Verne Code” before it closes next month. Admittedly, it took some persuasion to drag #MuseumBoy away from the robots, but since he is currently very much in to adventure stories and travelling, we […]
