It’s that time of year again, and this time it’s kind of crept up on me – tomorrow is Berlin’s annual Lange Nacht der Museen, or Long Night of Museums, in its 36th edition. 77 museums are taking part, with around 700 events to chose from. All that for just one ticket, which also included the use of public transport. Our Highlights for Families Last year, I took #MuseumBoy with me for the first time, and we had a grand time together. Officially, the evening […]

As I mentioned last week, I’ve just spent a short break in Scotland, mostly in Edinburgh. Other than haggis hunting in Dunfermline, one of the highlights was the ‘Night of the Mammoth’ at the National Museum of Scotland on the Friday night. It was one in their series of adult only late night events, which usually centre around the theme of the current exhibition – ‘Mammoths of the Ice Age’, in this case. If you’ve been following me on Facebook and Twitter, you’ll know I’ve just spent a short break in Edinburgh. I thought it would be fun to do the same again, though I’ve cut it back a little year to choosing just one candidate for each category – which was not easy to do, believe me! Actually, it was difficult not choosing the National […]

Hello everyone, Museum Diary is back again after the winter holiday break, and although we’re already in to the second week of January it’s never too late to wish you all a Happy New Year! I hope you all have a great 2013 full of health, happiness and, of course, museums ;-) Before jumping head first in to the new year ahead I wanted to briefly reflect back on the year that was. This time last year, I was making the big resolution to find […]

Magic Carpet at the National Museum of Scotland

“Magic carpet fly with me, let us see what we can see. Zooming up above the sky, let us wonder why oh why? Magic carpet fly with me, let us what we can see.” This is what #MuseumBaby and I found ourselves singing – to the tune of ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’ – as we sat on the Magic Carpet at the foot of the elephant in the National Museum of Scotland’s Animal World gallery the other week. The Magic Carpet is a giant, custom-made […]
