{Germany} Plattenbau Living at the DDR Museum

Last week, I was invited to visit the DDR Museum to view the new extension to their permanent exhibition which recently opened. I’ve written about the DDR Museum before. It’s one of the most popular museums in Berlin, and although it gets a little crowded at weekends, it’s a great museum to visit with kids. Even more so, after the recent changes. Previously, the museum was divided in to two key areas: the everyday side of life in the DDR, and the political side. So what’s […]

{Germany} Museum Spotting by Boat

A really popular activity in Berlin when the weather is nice, is to go on a boat ride along one of the rivers or canals. Oh, the hours we have spent watching boats on the way to and from nursery, and waving to the people on board as they slip under the bridge below us.  So a few weeks ago we finally made #MuseumBaby’s wish come to, and all went on a boat ride ourselves. Perhaps they’ll prove useful for your summer holiday. So, for some of the cities whose museum landscapes I know quite well, I will be choosing my top 5 favourites, and I also have a couple of guest authors lined up for you. And since an update to my top Berlin recommendations […]

My Top Berlin Museum Recommendations

May 11, 2012

We’ve only been in Berlin a couple of months (well, coming up for 9 months actually, how time flies!), but already I’ve had at least half a dozen requests from international friends and colleagues for must see museum recommendations. So I don’t need to compile them anew every time someone asks, I thought I’d write a blog post about them and then I can just point people to that! (why didn’t I think of this before?) Please note that I’m only recommending museums I have […]

DDR Museum

Yesterday, I visited the DDR Museum with my brother, who has come to stay for a few days. We’re going to the Long Night of Museums on Saturday (the main reason for his visit), but we wanted to spend some extra time at the DDR Museum, which I had previously checked out in December and decided it would be worth visiting with a couple of hours to spare. And indeed, we spent over two hours looking around this fabulous museum that has shot right up […]
