Kids in Museums Book Club: Digging for Dinosaurs

It’s been a while since I blogged about kids museum books. There was just so much going on, I didn’t find the time to prepare new book reviews. But now it’s time to resurrect the Kids in Museums Book Club, and I’m starting off with a book for the very little ones. I had to try hard not to laugh at his serious face. He’d watched his big brother helping me out with some book review pics for my Instagram feed, and wanted to have a […]

After a bit of a summer of a summer hiatus, the Kids in Museums Book Club is back. And since we are heading to New York for the Autumn school holidays, the book club is heading there too. This is the first time I’ve chosen a book with no words in it at all, but both my 2 year old and my 6 year old love ‘You Can’t Take a Balloon Into The Metropolitan Museum’, by Jacqueline Preiss Weitzman and Robin Preiss Glasser. Before Museum Diary heads off in to a little summer break, I wanted to give you the latest edition of our ‘Kids in Museums Book Club‘. So far, we’ve had books featuring both imaginary museums, as well as real life museums from Paris and London. This month, we travel to another real life museum in our reading: to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City. We’re heading to New York for our Autumn holidays later this year, so I thought it would be fun […]

This month, I’ve got #MuseumBaby helping me out with the book club instead of #MuseumBoy, as our June recommendation is one for the very little ones. The Maisy ‘first experiences’ series, by Lucy Cousins, sees Maisy the mouse and her friends – which include a crocodile, a squirrel, a chicken and an elephant – have lots of little adventures that young children can relate to. They go to the library, to nursery, or camping, they deal with bed time or wobbly teeth. And they go […]

Kids in Museums Book Club: Clara Button and the Magical Hat Day

After several art related museum books in a row, this month #MuseumBoy has chosen a book club read for you that features hats! And, yet again, it also features a real life museum: ‘Clara Button and the Magical Hat Day’ takes us to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Clara is a little girl who collects buttons and likes to make hats for her dolls and toy animals, inspired by her late Granny Elsie who was a milliner. She channels Elsie’s creativity by wearing one of […]

Kids in Museums Book Club: Dogs’ Night

We’re sticking with the art gallery theme for this month’s Kids in Museums Book Club, though there are no Mona Lisas this time *smile* I was a bit hesitant about including this book, as it appears to be out of print and I want you to be able to go out and buy it if you like it, but there seem to be plenty of second hand copies available from third party sellers on Amazon. “Large dogs and little dogs, spotty dogs and plain dogs, […]
