I was hoping to report back on some museums from the day trip we took to Poland on Monday, but those of you who follow me on Twitter will already know that sadly all the museums in Szczecin were closed. Next time we will remember not to travel there on a Monday! But I still have yet some more Barcelona museums up my sleeve ;-) The Casa Museu Gaudí (or Gaudí House Museum) is located in Parc Güell on top of a hill to the […]

{Spain} Museu del Calçat

I guess it being the 4th of July today I should be writing about one of the many museums in the USA I’ve been to, but it’s been two weeks since I last reported from my trip to Barcelona and I still have six more museums to write about, so I better keep going! The Museu del Calçat, or Shoe Museum, is situated in the Gothic Quarter, Barcelona’s historic town centre. It’s quite aptly housed in what used to be the medieval shoemaker’s guild premises, […]

1950s Side Car

The Museu Moto hadn’t been on my Barcelona list, I stumbled upon it whilst trying to find the Shoe Museum. And I’m glad I did, as it turned out to be way more interesting that I had imagined, and very well laid out and presented (though they obviously weren’t expecting visitors first thing in the morning, as they were still hoovering and mopping the back end of the museum whilst I started my visit in the front end^^). The museum opened in 2011 and, as […]

{Spain} Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona

So often I’ve attended conferences and other events at museums where you don’t actually get a chance to see the museum, so I made some time (a.k.a. skipped a session) during MuseumNext to check out our host venue, the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona, or MACBA. If visiting MEAM earlier that week had taken me out of my comfort zone, then MACBA really pushed me to the limit. My Timeout travel guide app described MACBA as a place of “cryptic minimalism…where art is taken very seriously […]

{Spain} Museu Europeu d’Art Modern

Here’s the thing – I’m not a huge art fan (shock confession). I find sculpture quite interesting, and I absolutely LOVE photography, but given the choice I prefer museums filled with “stuff” over those filled with paintings. And I’ve especially never really made friends with contemporary art. So I never would have chosen to visit the Museu Europeu d’Art Modern (MEAM), had it not been featured in Adopt-a-Museum. Maria Villalba, who lives in Barcelona, had wanted to champion her local museum, which at less than […]

Museu del Perfum - Perfume Museum - Barcelona

Right, here’s the first of my Barcelona museum adventures. The Perfume Museum of Barcelona, located through the back of the Perfumeria Regia at Passeig del Gràcia no. 39, was founded in the early 1960s to exhibit an evolution of perfume vessels throughout history and from around the world. One reviewer on Foursquare said “It’s just a collection of small bottles (with dust), not really perfume”, but they couldn’t be more wrong. Firstly, they’re not all small bottles; while the collection does include some miniatures, there […]
