Christmas came early!

Germany

In November, the Deutsches Currywurst Museum launched a competition in which they were calling for people to write and send in Christmas stories featuring, you’ve guessed it, currywurst* as a central theme. The stories could be funny, serious, sad, true or completely made up, as long as they featured at least five of the following words (or rather, their German equivalents, since it was all taking place in German): Sausage Sofa (part of the museum’s interior design), curry, fridge, cardboard bowl (a very specific one for serving currywurst in), takeaway kiosk, currywurst, Berlin, chip fork, ketchup, Qwoo (the museum’s mascot).

As well as the fun of taking part, there were some great prizes at stake: 5 gift packages featuring a selection of museum shop merchandise, including a messenger bag, a ceramic bowl, a marzipan currywurst, a tin of curry powder, a knife and fork keyring, a drinking bottle, a Qwoo badge, a set of postcards, and a giant pen! As a big fan of the museum, I had to take part and try my luck. Although I was cutting it a bit close, I managed to write up a story** and send it in with two days to spare before the 19 December deadline. A day later I got an email from the museum telling me that I was one of the lucky winners! And later that day I was able to pop round and collect my prize (I was so pleased I brought them a bag of home baked biscuits in exchange^^).

It really felt like Christmas had come early – THANK YOU!

* If you’ve never heard of currywurst before, here’s an excellent description from Wikipedia: “Currywurst (…) is a fast-food dish of German origin consisting of hot pork sausage (GermanWurst) cut into slices and seasoned with curry ketchup, regularly consisting of ketchup or tomato paste blended with generous amounts of curry powder, or a ready-made ketchup-based sauce seasoned with curry and other spices.

**So, where is this story, you are asking? The story was written in German, but as soon as I can steal half an hour to translate it I’ll post it for your enjoyment :-)
