Where Three Dreams Cross

February 27, 2010

I was in London earlier this week for work, giving a talk at the Whitechapel Gallery. To my delight, the gallery was showing a landmark exhibition entitled ‘Where Three Dreams Cross: 150 Years of Photography from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh’.

Arranged over five themes including portraits, performance, and social documentary & street photography, the exhibition features over 400 works by over 70 photographers with works from both important historical collections, as well as previously unseen images from private family archives. Collectively, the images give an inside view to the history of these three countries right up to how modern life there has been shaped, as seen through the lens of their photographers.

The half hour I had to look around the exhibition over the lunchtime break was no where near long enough to fully appreciate all the wonderful images on display, so if you plan to go and see the exhibition, make sure you bring along plenty of time. The exhibition is showing until 11 April 2010.
